Benjamin Bleezarde

Books have always been a part of me. I was encouraged to read at a young age and those stories developed how I view the world. It wasn’t long before I began telling my own. When my older sister went to college, I dug out her beat-up, hand-me-down laptop and tried my hardest to write my own series of short stories. Myths—a crudely written, poorly thought-out series about two brothers who kept finding themselves wrapped up in different supernatural situations. It was terrible, but boy oh boy did I have an absolute blast writing it.

That love of creative storytelling only grew as I aged, molding through every artistic medium I could get my hands on. Photography, animation, music, and filmmaking.

I fell deeply in love with filmmaking as a teenager and I pursued that passion throughout college, completing a Bachelor of the Fine Arts Degree in Filmmaking from Montclair State University in May of 2016.

It wasn’t for nearly a year post-graduation that I realized my true passion all along had been writing. Everything led back to it. It was like a foundation, holding up every other creative journey, every venture, every piece of art I ever made. Storytelling moved my world. It taught me how to understand the things I saw and the people I met. By creating my own worlds, my own characters, my own situations and catharsis, I could sympathize with other people and other circumstances I had never been in. It let me understand more about the world and my place within it.

Writing made me the person I am today, and I don’t plan to stop it anytime soon.
